March 2015 Newsletter

TOPIC: Spring/Farm/Easter
Language to focus on at home: Spring, blossom, bud, petals, stem, roots, flower, grow, seeds, Daffodils, Crocuses, Daisy, Sunflower, life cycle, seasons, compost, New Life, nest, twigs, piglet, foal, calf, chick, duckling, vegetables, blossom, bloom.
Our topic for the month of March is Easter & Springtime and its association with “new life”. As part of this topic we will be looking at and discussing new life on the farm and the role of the farmer during springtime; planting, ploughing and growing vegetables.
We will also be looking at the simple life cycles of chicks as well as plants and flowers. At the end of the topic children should have a basic understanding of simple life cycles and of what plants & flowers need to help them grow and compare it to what we need to care for ourselves.
We will create a spring interest table for the children to explore. To make this as interesting as possible we would be grateful for any spring flowers, twigs or blossoms that you may have in your garden or any unwanted seeds or bulbs you may have at home.
SONGS and RHYMES
Sung to “Frere Jacques”
It is springtime, it is springtime. Winters gone, winters gone
Summertime is coming, summertime is coming.
It won’t be long, it won’t be long

Sung to “London Bridge”
Leaves are growing on the trees, on the trees, on the trees,
Leaves are growing on the trees, it is springtime!
All the grass is turning green, turning green......
See the birdies build their nests, build their nests........
Watch the flowers start to grow, start to grow..............
Chick, chick, chick, chick chicken, lay a little egg for me
Chick, chick, chick, chick chicken, I want one for my tea.
I haven’t eaten since breakfast and now its half past three.
So chick, chick, chick, chick, chicken, lay a little egg for me.
