Dear Diary,
Today was probably the strangest school day I’ve ever seen. Seriously, loads of girls are asking me why I’m hanging out with Auggie, the “freak”. As if it’s any of their business! As for the boys, well, most of them have been avoiding me as well as August, afraid they’ll catch the “plague”! This is actually getting kind of stupid – why the heck do they care what Auggie looks like? It shouldn’t matter.
Okay, I admit – at first, when I saw August sitting at a table all alone – well, I only sat beside him because I felt really sorry for him. First days are scary, even for a kid with a normal face. Imagine what Auggie was going through! But, that isn’t why I keep sitting at his table at lunch. He’s fun, you know, and quite funny too. He’s not like the other kids, because they all care about who likes who and all that rubbish. Auggie doesn’t bother with that stuff. He likes to play games, just like me, and… if I’m honest, he’s a lot more fun than all the girls.

Dear Diary,
Well, I’ve learned to deal with the whispers and the rumours. Today was a new problem altogether. Auggie was in a really bad mood at lunch, and I didn’t know what was the matter. It was like, soooo annoying, and he was being kind of rude. Then finally he accused me of only hanging out with him because Mr.Tushman told me to. (Which he didn’t, by the way) And then, when I of course denied, he didn’t believe me! Ugh!
But then he told me he’d heard Jack bad-mouthing him, and I couldn’t stay mad at him anymore because I realised that was why he’d been grumpy.

Dear Diary,
Today I was invited to Savanna’s Halloween party. Actually, it’s not really anything to do with Halloween. Savanna told me not to dress up. I think that’s silly. (I didn’t tell her this, of course – you shouldn’t get on the bad side of a popular girl) Like, what’s the point of a Halloween party with no costumes?

Dear Diary,
Hi. Oh, I’m in Savanna’s bathroom if you’re wondering. I’m hiding in the bath, to be specific.
I don’t like this party. Savanna was trying to get me to join her “group”. Basically, she wants me to choose between August and Julian. And she wants me to choose Julian.
I’ve just called Mom. I want to go home – she’s picking me up. I’ll have to make up an excuse tomorrow for why I left the party earlier, but it shouldn’t be that hard. Okay, my hand is getting sore from writing now. So, bye.
